Ways to Entertain Your Kids

Posted by Louis | Sunday, October 26, 2008 | , | 6 comments »

  • Give them cardboard boxes and they can have fun for hours.
  • Take an old pair of white socks, draw eyes, nose, mouth and put on a show.
  • Bring them to the pool.
  • Create a slide show with their photos and show it to them.
  • Play house with them.
  • Read story books to them.
  • Eat ice cream with them.
  • Bake cookies with them.
  • Take them out to learn and appreciate nature.
  • Each day, set a bonding time with them, even just being together - cuddling, hugging, laughing.
  • Do arts and crafts with them
  • Tell them action stories.
My baby girl loves attention and like to be played with. I'm always seem to be busy with work, TV programs and computer.

However, I begin to realise that I better spend more time with her as she is only small for so long.

So, do you have any more ideas to add to the list?

Your Baby Can Read

Posted by Louis | Saturday, October 25, 2008 | , | 0 comments »

My Baby Vanessa has started watching "Your Baby Can Read" VCDs for about 2 months. This program aims to encourage babies to participate by saying the words and by doing physical actions that help them learn the meanings of the words.

Vanessa is always excited and happy whenever the VCD is being played. The program consists of 5 VCDs with recommended viewing periods. I can see that she is enjoying the program and best of all, she is kept "entertained" for a good 30 minutes.

She has yet to say a word reflected on the program, however, she is responding to the sing-a-long segment in the program.

Looking forward to the day that she will point to her nose when the word "Nose" appears on the screen.

The Government has decided to extend the qualifying date for the Baby Bonus and other measures in the enhanced Marriage and Parenthood Package to benefit more Singaporean babies.

This move is made in response to many requests and appeals from the expectant mothers and fathers whose babies are due before 1 Jan 2009.

Thus, Ah Chua's Xiao Xiao Cai will qualify for the benefits in the enhanced Marriage and Parenthood Package. Ah Chua is a great planner and forecaster, I have never come across someone who is able to plan and execute so accurately.

Xiao Xiao Cai was born just a few days after Prime Minister Lee’s announcement at the National Day Rally and the package was moved to 17 Aug 2008 from 1 Jan 2009 to qualify Ah Chua.... unbelievable.

So unbelievable that I tried betting on the weight of his baby - 0322, hoping to catch some of his luck. But no, the number didn't came out over the weekend. Anyway, he commented that there are a lot of craps on this blog, hopefully this post is not one of them.

Back to the enhanced Marriage and Parenthood Package, while PM Lee was announcing the enhanced package, item after item, I waited earnestly to hear something on Paternity leave... but no.. nothing came out.

Nevertheless, 6 days of paid childcare leave is good enough.

Here's the summary of the package for those who wants to have a quick reference:

I have learned a new meaning to this word FAMILY from a Catholic Priest of my Church.

F - Father, refers to the Almightly Lord our God.
A - And
M - Mother, refers to our spiritual Mother Mary.
I - I
L - Love
Y - You

Without Lord our Father, FAMILY will be incomplete and becomes,

A - After
M - Marriage
I - I
L - Leave
Y - You

Have a joyful Sunday.

Law of the Garbage Truck

Posted by Louis | Saturday, February 16, 2008 | | 0 comments »

I received this great story via email.

++++++

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. He was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

++++++

Have a blessed, garbage-free day.
