I have found a great program that makes screen captures or video recordings a snap.

This free program is called Jing, it is used to capture what's on your monitor screen.

Jing sits on your desktop until you're ready to use it.

All you need to do is click "Capture", select your desired desktop area, choose "Capture Image" or "Capture Video", then "Save" and you are done!

Jing needs .NET 3.0 Framework to run, you’ll be prompted to download and install it if it isn’t on your computer. .NET 3.0 Framework is free from Microsoft.

Go to Jing website here.

Have fun!

How remove USB devices easily?

Posted by Louis | Monday, January 19, 2009 | | 2 comments »

If you're like me, you probably have several USB devices. They're easy plug & play tools and need proper removal from the USB port to protect their life span. However, the Windows "Safely Remove Hardware" option is cumbersome. We need to go through several dialog boxes before we can eject a drive.

If this annoys you, try USB Disk Ejector.

No installation required. Just download and run the file, it will open a window on your desktop showing all the devices connected to your USB ports. Click and remove the device safely.

This free program is simple and easy to use. Try it and tell me what you think of it.

This is the link USB Disk Ejector.

I have just purchased a thumb drive. As an afterthought, I realized I need to encrypt the drive' data as I'm worried I may lose the thumb drive.

TrueCrypt can encrypt everything on your thumb drive. The program is not automatically portable, but it is easily made so.

It is strongly recommend that you read the Beginner's Tutorial and follow the step-by-step instructions. Start using TrueCrypt by selecting the "Create a file container" option.

Google has released a new Web browser called the Chrome.

Google Chrome is a modern platform for web pages and applications. Google has taken a fresh approach for web browsing, their "One box for everything" browser combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster and easier.

We spend much of our time surfing the net using a web browser, we search, read news, make money, blog and keep in touch with friends (like using facebook.com) - all using a browser. Like Gmail, I believe this is going to change the way we surf the net.

For my first try, Google Chrome looks simple, clean and response really fast when toggling between websites & web pages. The address/URL bar also serve as a search bar and this makes surfing a breeze.

The "Paste and go / search" short-cut is another great feature.

Try it yourself and tell me what you think of it.

Download Google Chrome

Don't like to spend hundreds of dollars on Microsoft Office? Microsoft Office might be the standard program at work, but that doesn't mean you need it at home.

The free OpenOffice includes a word processor, spreadsheet, database, presentation program and more. OpenOffice is compatible with Microsoft Office files. Thus, you can use it to open and save files in the Office formats.

Are you bored of your wallpaper?

Posted by Louis | Wednesday, June 25, 2008 | | 0 comments »

I have plenty of my photos on the computer and I use a rotating library of photos for wallpaper. I don't change them manually, rather, I use John's Background Switcher.

This free program changes photos at a set interval.

I can specify the interval. I also select the photos. I mix my pictures and those from the Web. This program is a must for photography lovers.

I like the option on "Create a snapshot scrapbook".

Try it and you'll never be bored by your desktop wallpaper again!
